ABOUT THE ARTIST
Biography
• It all began in 2012 when a friend showed Maureen an abstract painting she did of her daughter at an art jamming session. She was so impressed and inspired with the painting, that she thought to herself, “I could paint something like that!”.
• Motivated, she purchased some brushes and watercolor supplies and started painting whenever she could. Since an early age, art held a very special place in Maureen’s heart. In 2012, she made a decision to enroll in formal art classes. She started learning to paint in watercolors, and after slightly more than a year, decided to learn to paint with acrylics, and eventually oils, which has now become her favorite medium to paint with.
• While portrait paintings and floral art are her primary focus, she is equally well versed in animal paintings, as well. Over the years she has had commissions to paint pet portraits, as well as abstract pieces. Observing the beauty of nature (plants, trees, and her surroundings) is the main source of her inspiration. Maureen also excels in painting portraits in oils from photographs. She is very much influenced by paintings done by renowned artists like Picasso, Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent and Georgia O’Keefe, just to name a few. Painting helps her slow down and relax and she finds it extremely therapeutic. Maureen retired in March 2022 from the job market, and now spend most of her time pursuing her first love, painting!
• Maureen is a Singapore-born Eurasian and besides painting, she loves reading, gourmet cooking, crafting and travelling.
